activities director

Hugh is a self-proclaimed professional fun-haver.  He grew up on the Southern California coast, and always valued the role that outdoor spaces and genuinely having fun have in the process of rebuilding and personal growth.  Growing up in the high-expectation world of Orange County, Hugh never really found himself in the classroom.   It was in the ocean, on the lacrosse field, in the mountains, and while building close friendships where he was able to find a path and gain traction in life.

Oftentimes, there is an expectation for a linear path in life.  Go to school, get good grades, go to college, get a job, grow up.  Hugh is a firm believer of following your gut even if it says something a little different from what others say.

Hugh started working in the recovery and mental health field in 2017, beginning with wilderness therapy programs in central Oregon.  Nature has always been a pillar in Hugh’s life and this makes Bend an incredibly special place to work on one’s self.  Nature is a place that refuses to judge.  It is a place that invites us to be authentic and open which allows us to turn inward to discover who we are.  As the Activities Director at Skyline Recovery, Hugh strives to provide numerous opportunities for our students to get outside and explore all Bend and the Pacific Northwest have to offer.

When not working, Hugh can be found skiing, guiding raft trips, playing with his dog, Sawyer, cooking, rockhounding, spending time with his partner, and enjoying all the fun and exciting things Central Oregon has to offer.
